Nigeria: Bauchi to Create New Ministry for Micro Finance Banks

Bauchi State House of Assembly has passed a resolution that will allow the state government to create a new ministry for micro-finance banks.
The chairman House Committee on Information, Alhaji Dayyabu Ciroma, stated this over the weekend while briefing newsmen on the activities of the legislature in Bauchi.
He said the house passed a resolution for creating new ministry for micro-finance banks and the agency for information technology with the aim to strengthening the activities of micro-finance banks and to regulate the activities of information technology in the state.
Ciroma said the ministry will be headed by a veteran banker and the banks will be going round the state to educate the rural dwellers on its activities in order to encourage them save and borrow from the banks for the development of their finances. He regretted that majority of the customers use the banks only to collect salaries but not develop their economic activities.
The lawmaker said the house will regulate all the activities of information technology in the state in order to enhance its activities for the development of the state.
The committee chairman said the house advised government to help the people whose houses and farmlands were destroyed in different parts of the state and to approach their problems scientifically by diverting waterways in the villages to avoid flood.
