The company Shine Credit Limited, a microfinance agency, operates in Tema in the Greater Accra region and has been accused to have defrauded a customer of over GHc 12,000.
The customer, Michael Johnson, told Pulse.com.gh on Monday that, after several months of investing in a treasury bill at the Community 9 branch in Tema, the micro-finance company has refused to provide him his money, with or without the profit.
Johnson narrated his ordeal saying, “I invested an amount of 11,500.00 for a duration of 3 month and the money was supposed to mature on the October 29 ,2014 which i will receive a total amount of 12,362.50 but after four months, i did not receive the money from them despite several attempts. (paraphrase)”
Being fed up with company’s lies, Johnson then decided to report the case to the police and a court summon was issued to Shine Credit Limited
The Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O) of the company, David Sorinye then decided an out of court settlement, promising to pay the money in February which Johnson agreed. A new agreement was then signed.
The agrrement read;
Your investment was rolled over on the 21st November 2014.
You invested 11,962.59
Duration : 3 months
Investment will mature on the 23rd Feb 2015
Total amount payable maturity of this investment 12,859.68.
When the deadline for payment was due, things did not change. The company did not pay the money as promised and according to the victim, till date, all efforts by Johnson to get back his money or even get in touch with Mr. Sorinye and demand for answers has proved futile.
According to him, “anytime I go to their place of work to ask for the money, they give me many excuses, claiming their manger is to issue his signature before the money can be payed to me but he is not around but as soon as he arrives, they will contact me which obviously is all a pack of lies.”
He added that, he sometimes offer to stay and wait but he ends up waiting for hours.
